Electric Motors
An
electric motor uses electrical energy to produce mechanical energy, and this is
normally achieved by the interaction of magnetic fields and current- carrying
conductors. Electric motors can be used for a vast amount of applications and
uses, such as machine tools, household appliances, pumps, and computer disc
drives, and many other uses. Electric motors can be operated by the direct
current from a battery, or an alternating current supplied from a central
electrical distribution grid. Small electric motors can be found in electric
wristwatches, while more medium sized electric motors can be used for industrial
purposes. The largest electric motors, are used to propel large ships and can
also be used as pipeline compressors.
