Illuminating extrusion

Aluminium Shapes Ltd News and PR from Aluminium Shapes Ltd - Published 17 November 2015 We’re seeing some really interesting, creative and sustainable business in the lighting sector right now.
Working with Marina Mellado, whose Luz light was created for exhibition at the LEXUS DESIGN AWARDS 2015. LUZ is an open source ambient light for indoor use that fluctuates in intensity of brightness and colour gradient depending on the weather conditions and time of day. It is a living object, which uses a simple internal brain to transform the atmosphere of a room in a subtle but powerful way.

Unlike other extruders, we also encourage designers to be present at die trials, as we recognize that a designer’s product is like a newborn child and we never tire of seeing the ‘delivery’.

The section created for LUZ was then formed into a ring and assembled very much in keeping with our doodle to delivery ethic. We worked closely with Marina both in terms of the sectional geometry and alloy and temper, to make sure successful extrusion and post forming could be achieved.
