Because it gives me the opportunity to have a positive impact on peoples lives and livelihoods whether they like it or not

Dream job?
IÂ’m in it. I love aluminium design, it integrates with every facet of manufacture and I am weekly in awe of the creative use of it we see

Any regrets?
YesÂ…one that I wasnÂ’t born to millionaire parents, two I stuck with music. I could read it at 6 but circumstances didnÂ’t allow it to develop

What was the most difficult business decision you had to make?
Coming to Shapes from a position of success and comfort, it was seen by others as a big risk; but not by me. To work with Milburn and Neil was a calling I couldnÂ’t be deaf to

Best boss?
Lynne Nicklin. There are people who think in the box, out of the box, and people like her who donÂ’t even need a box.

What are you best at in work?
Gaining customer trust

WhatÂ’s the best thing about working here?
Sense of across site energy, it fuels me.

WhatÂ’s the worst thing about working here?
Trying to get people to see the bigger market picture and small mindedness, but you get that everywhere

What are the main challenges at Aluminium Shapes over the next few years?
Growing the fabrication side, presenting more as a supplier of aluminium extrusions and extruded components and less as an extruder

WhatÂ’re the main challenges at aluminium shapes over the next few years?
The greatest challenge is from other extruders giving UK customer what they want as opposed to UK extruders telling customers what they want to make. We have lost over 30 presses in the UK in my time producing thousands of tonnes and we have never learned the lesson. Make what people want to buy, we will.

If your friends described you in three words what would they be?
Loyal, commanding, passionate

Best bit of advice you were ever given:
Make yourself indispensible to your boss.

Because it gives me the opportunity to have a positive impact on peoples lives and livelihoods whether they like it or not
