Carter Pumps do what King Canute couldn’t!

Carter Pumps Ltd News and PR from Carter Pumps Ltd - Published 29 September 2014 Faced with problem flooding every time the river level rose the owners of this beautiful Cotswold Mill turned to Carter Pumps for help. The approach taken by Carter Pumps was a little more proactive than King Canute’s
“A complete new penstock valve and refurbishment of another was required to keep the rising waters out of the mill race. It was imperative that disruption to the garden area was kept to a minimum and that the finished project not only worked well but was sympathetic to the surroundings” says Carlton Tarrant, Technical Director at Carter Pumps.

Carter Pumps created a temporary dam to allow the works to take place. Removal of the old sluice gate was a simple task but fitting the new penstock valve required a large fabricated steel frame structure to be fitted. This was lowered into position using a crane and secured. We then fitted the penstock valve. Finally the facing wall was built, concealing the fabricated steel frame.

The project was completed on schedule and on budget. The owners of the mill are delighted with the finished project and are looking forward to a dry winter!
