Cable Harness
A cable harness is a collection or assembly of wires collected together and bound with cable lacing, clamps, conduit or even electrical insulation tape. The idea behind this is to minimise installation problems, such as routing the cables through long and difficult installations such as aircrafts, cars and even spacecrafts. It actually harnesses all the cables together into one easy to handle length of cable making it easier to install and cuts down problems such as vibration, abrasion and to certain extent moisture. Sometimes in certain applications there can be kilometres of wire and cable involved, so by basically bunching them all together, installation time is minimised as well as the risk of a short occurring. By producing a cable harness and covering the assembly with a flame retardant sleeve it can also reduce the risk of electrical fires. Cable harnesses are produced by cutting all the wires to the require length stripping the ends, the whole assembly is clamped to a work surface, terminals or connectors are fitted to the bare wire, then either conduit, sleeving, or extruded yarn is
fitted to the harness making it ready for installation.
