Rubber Sealants are made from silicone rubber which is a polymer containing silicone together with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. They are used widely in industry with many formulations. They are often one or two part polymers and may contain fillers to improve properties or reduce cost. It is generally non-reactive, stable and resistant to extreme environments and temperatures from -55 to +300 centigrade while still maintaining its properties. Because of its versatility and performance it can be found in use in many industries today. It is relatively easy to manufacture and can be utilised to suit many applications such as the automotive industry, cooking and baking, food storage, clothes, footwear, sports goods, electronics, medical devices and implants and in home repair and hardware products such as silicone sealants. There are also many special grades and forms of silicone rubber including, steam resistant, high tear strength, high temperature, low temperature, electrically conductive, low smoke emitting and metal detectable.
