Machining & Turning
Turning is the process which uses a single point cutting tool that is set parallel to the materials surface. It can be carried out on a lathe which is operated manually requiring constant attention by the operator or it can be performed on a CNC lathe which does not. The use of CNC can be used on many other types of engineering machines and tooling. Work produced on precision machine shop lathes is extremely accurate and probably second only to work produce on precision grinding machines. Lathes, especially CNC lathes are capable of producing work to extremely tight tolerances and excellent surface finishes. They are also capable of producing thousands of machined parts per day depending on complexity. Parts as small as 0.3mm diameter can be machined accurately, as well as parts as large as 500mm diameter and over in a typical engineering machine shop.
