Food And Beverage
Food and drink are substances, usually made up of primarily carbohydrates, fats, minerals, water and proteins that can be eaten or drunk and metabolised by almost all multicellular entities for nutrition or pleasure. Items which are considered to be food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus. Farming, fishing, hunting and foraging and other ways are used to obtain food. Most traditions have a recognisable cuisine, a specific set of traditions, preferences and practices, the study of which is called gastronomy. Many cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by way of food and not just by consumption. Many cultures study the dietary food habits and such things as society and religion govern the food which we eat. Food and drink safety is always a concern; many lives are claimed each year with foodbourne illnesses.
