Disturbed Asbestos Leads To £30k Fine

AW Safety Management Ltd News and PR from AW Safety Management Ltd - Published 05 July 2022 A £30k fine has been handed out to a construction company after asbestos was spread across a construction site during a refurbishment project.
The refurbishment work was being carried out at student accommodation in Manchester between May and June 2021. The job included providing bathrooms for all rooms and constructing 2 studio flats. During the work, asbestos pipe lagging was removed and the debris was spread around the site being disposed of in a skip in the yard area.

5 or 6 employees at the time were under the supervision of the business instead of a licenced asbestos removal contractor.

It was also found that an asbestos survey had been carried out but they had failed to act on the findings or put sufficient control measures in place.

The company director pleaded guilty to breaches of Section 2 (1) and Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, by virtue of 37(1) of the Act.
