Rockford IT appoints its first placement student

Lee-Michael Pearce, 20, is a 3rd year student at Staffordshire University studying for a BSc (Hons) in Computer Networks and Security. He has joined Rockford IT on a 12 month placement.

Lee-Michael, from Stoke-on-Trent, first became interested in computers as a teenager when helping a family friend in his computer repair business. On starting his degree he studied networking and software courses and found he really enjoyed networks so took that route.

Lee-Michael is working as a 2nd Line Technician which means that he will be taking customer service calls and solving issues that they may have. We will ensure that he gains some relevant workplace experience and by maximising his potential and by making him a valued member of the team, we will reduce pressures on the service desk and bring a benefit to the business. Lee-Michael said, “I saw the job advertised on the University placement site and knew straight away this was the job I wanted. I’m just really pleased Rockford saw my potential”.

Helen Rayet, Service Desk Manager, said, “We are delighted Lee-Michael has joined us on the Service Desk, it will give him some real-world experience whilst at the same time expanding our team as we grow the business. Having worked in schools for many years I know the value that a work placement can bring to an individual and have worked with many placement students over the years. It is a good move for Rockford to offer this and hopefully Lee will re-join the company on successful completion of his degree.”
