A sweet success

Due to unprecedented expansion, one the world’s leading manufacturers of dairy-free, gluten-free, organic and vegan chocolates needed to build a second, larger factory to help increase their production capacity and storage facilities.

The company, which was created in 2010, has been growing rapidly year on year due to increased demands for their chocolates and now sells to over 35 countries worldwide. The new factory, totalling 260m2, incorporates the main production facility, conche room, engineers’ workshop and NPD room.

Due to manufacturing and cleaning processes, the company was looking for a seamless, hard-wearing floor finish. During production, water cannot be used to clean the floors as the sugar within the chocolate will absorb the moisture and can cause the chocolate to bloom. As a result, the floors are scraped with metal scrapers, until a full clean down can be undertaken.

Aware of The National Flooring Company’s expertise within the industry, Moo Free Chocolates approached the company for advice on the most suitable flooring system. Upon discussion of their requirements the Pumadur MD system by Resdev was recommended and specified. The system is a heavy-duty flow applied polyurethane floor, topped with a smooth matt finish. The system offers excellent resistance to abrasion making it ideally suited to complement their operational processes.

The factory also integrates a new warehousing facility and the chocolate manufacturer was looking for a reasonably priced resin system to seal the existing concrete. A high build, solvent-free two pack epoxy resin was installed to 363m to provide a protective coating within the area.
