Association Scouts for new flooring

The National Flooring Company Ltd News and PR from The National Flooring Company Ltd - Published 18 May 2015 The Scout association is the UK's biggest coeducational youth organisation, offering unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others to make a positive impact in communities.
The Association has a number of Scout Activity Centres which provide a base to offer outdoor experiences to young people and adults from all over the UK and beyond. The success of these centres has been monumental and has encouraged the Association to develop their centres across the UK, calling upon the services from The National Flooring Company to provide slip resistant floor finishes.

Downe Scout activity centre is set amongst a stunning 86-acre wooded site in rural Kent and was the first to benefit from the services that The National Flooring Company provides. To offer facilities suitable for all weather conditions, indoor lodges are provided to ensure the centre can remain open throughout the year. Within the Centre are showering and toilet facilities and to guarantee the safety of their guests a slip resistant finish was required. Having used vinyl floor finishes previously that often required repair; the Association chose to trial a resin flooring solution.

The main requirement of the project was to create a finish safe enough for visitors to walk on bare foot and in wet conditions. Following an initial consultation and bespoke samples it was decided that the Degafloor QTA system presented the best solution due to its outstanding non slip properties. The system is broadcast with quartz to provide a textured finish that remains slip resistant, even in wet conditions. The system also offers exceptional durability and can be laid to falls which was a necessary requirement for these areas.

The Scout Association saw the benefit of the installation and service that The National Flooring Company provided and as a result the company was asked to install the same system at Youlbury Scout Activity Centre near Oxford. Working alongside the main contractors, a new toilet block and en-suite bathrooms were completed as part of a large refurbishment of the centre.

Anna Simpson Marketing & Sales Manager of The National Flooring Company comments: “Choosing the correct floor finish within an amenity block can be challenging. Finding the balance between adequate slip resistance and ease of maintenance can be hard to achieve. Within a predominately wet environment we would always recommend one of our more textured and therefore slip resistant finishes. The floors can be easily maintained with the correct equipment but safety cannot be compromised. We always recommend our clients look at the slip resistant values of a floor under production conditions to make sure it is suitable. ”.
