How to select a Commercial Interior Design Company - Find a ‘Good Fit’

Acorn Partition & Storage Systems News and PR from Acorn Partition & Storage Systems - Published 12 April 2018 If you have an important commercial interior design project to complete, then it is essential to find a company who 'fits' your working ethic to a tee.
1. Research

If you have an interior design project at your commercial space, then the first step is to carry out some basic research on the interior design firms in your area. Pay particular attention to those who specialise in commercial design, rather than residential projects, as the skills and knowledge are very different here. Check the companyÂ’s website, search their site for local case studies, and browse social media sites for feedback from clients who have used their services previously.

Areas of expertise and previous work are two important considerations. If you are looking to renovate an office, for example, it may make sense to turn to a Commercial Interior Design specialist with a history of successful projects, or if you are working on a restaurant or café build, it might make sense to use a company who has experience in this area. Credible, reliable firms will usually offer details of past work freely on their website, and also offer reference contacts who you can call and speak to in person.

2. Draw Up a Design Brief

Once, you have drawn up a list of potential Commercial Interiors companies, you need to draw up a design brief, giving a comprehensive overview of the project, and then contact the companies on your list.

In your design brief, make sure you include the following:

A detailed description of the project
Aims and objectives
The scope of services you require
A budget, or estimate of how much you are aiming to spend
Time deadline
You may also wish to ask any interested parties for proof of liability insurance and other coverage, as well as a list of references for you to check.

3. Discuss Your Project

Once you have received responses to your brief, you need to make a decision on which company would be best suited to work with. There are a number of factors to look at here, including estimated prices, proposed timelines, and quality of references. However, ultimately, the best way to decide will be to discuss your project with a few of your most likely candidates – face-to-face is always best!

The designer you choose needs to be professional, have a clear understanding of your requirements and be able to communicate effectively, whether it is with you or with any sub-trades working on the project. If you have a face-to-face meeting with your potential partner, you can usually tell instantly who will best fit the working ethic of your business, and who you would feel happy trusting to complete the work. It’s important that there is a ‘good fit’ between yourselves and the company you are working with, so that you feel confident all the way through the project, and that you feel comfortable asking questions and raising queries.

4. Make a decision

Once you have decided on an interior designer, make sure you get any consulting agreements in writing and sign a contract which clearly outlines the nature and scope of the project. Then you are good to goÂ…
