Relieving the pressure for Bariatric patients

Benmor Medical (UK) Ltd News and PR from Benmor Medical (UK) Ltd - Published 03 February 2015 A bariatric patient has an increased risk of pressure sores due to the increase tissue load and without the correct preventive measures situations are likely to lead to a more serious tissue injury.
Many patients suffering from the inability to move or turn themselves develop pressure sores on those areas of the body where insufficient blood is supplied. A bariatric patient has an increased risk of pressure sores due to the increase tissue load and without the correct preventive measures situations are likely to lead to a more serious tissue injury.

Pressure-relieving equipment such as alternating air mattresses and air cushions, relieve the pressure at regular intervals. Pressure-reducing equipment redistributes pressure by spreading the weight over a larger surface area decreasing pulmonary complications and increasing pressure relief.
Benmor Medical have a range of pressure-relieving devices that are available for hire or purchase which treat pressure sores up to stage 4 and include chairs, mattresses and air cushions.

Verto Turning Mattress
The Verto Turning Mattress has a 455kg (71st) working load giving it the flexibility to treat a wider range of patients. The gentle, gradual, 30-40 degree turning angle of the patient from side to side exerts less than 26mm Hg of pressure on the skin tissue and this allows the capillaries to fill, preventing blood starvation and the formation of pressure sores. In this way, existing pressure sores can be treated successfully.

Air escapes through tiny pinholes in the top of the cells to circulate under the cover. The moisture from the patient transfers through the vapour permeable fabric cover to interact with the air blowing up from the mattress. This process keeps the patient cool and dry without blowing air directly onto the patient.

Dynamic Air Cushion

Air cushions have been designed to give high risk pressure relieving care to bariatric patients who suffer from pressure sores and general discomfort.

The cushions have an alternation cycle of ABAB and run using the same pump as our dynamic mattress with adjustable pressure to optimise pressure relief.

The Ultra Cura Chair
The Ultra Cura Chair is one of the only bariatric chairs on the market suitable for pressure sores up to stage 4. ItÂ’s fully integral pressure care seat and backrest areas provide very high levels of comfort and pressure relief for large patients who can be vulnerable to tissue damage.

The chair is an effective combination of pressure care, mobility and positional adjustment for the bariatric patient and is the only fully mobile, hoist friendly bariatric chair with integral pressure care features.

It is extremely important to apply preventive measures for bariatric patients as well as treating patients who already suffer with pressure sores and providing the correct pressure-relieving equipment is key.
