Metering for the Renewable Heat Incentive

Bell Flow Systems Ltd News and PR from Bell Flow Systems Ltd - Published 21 January 2015 Bell Flow Systems, a supplier of flow measurement solutions, have been dealing with RHI since the outset.
Both householders and non-domestic sectors can benefit from the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), a Governmental scheme that provides financial support to participants that install renewable heating technologies in their homes and companies such as biomass boilers.

Where heat metering is required a meter that is MID Class 3 is critical for domestic RHI and MID Class 2 for non-domestic RHI, the claim will not be processed without meeting these standards as a minimum. Bell Flow Systems, a supplier of flow measurement solutions, have been dealing with RHI since the outset and can provide heat meters compliant for domestic and non-domestic RHI.

The minocal C5 IUF heat meter is specially designed to measure and record heat energy in domestic and small pipe bore industrial systems. The C5 IUF meets MID Class 2 in any orientation and is available in sizes ½” up to ¾”. The ultrasonic technology is resistant to debris, can handle temperatures up to +130°C and reliable on low volume flows. The memory holds data for the last 24 months and M-Bus outputs can be used for remote monitoring. With a height of just 54mm the C5 IUF can be installed even in confined spaces.

Available in sizes ¾” up to 4”, the new VuHeat heat meter is ideal for larger pipes sizes such as those found in commercial properties and industrial systems. Like the minocal C5 IUF, the VuHeat meets MID Class 2 and benefits from ultrasonic technology, with no moving parts this meter is two times more durable than one with a mechanical counter. Suitable for temperatures up to +90°C and with standard M-Bus output and a long battery life the VuHeat is well suited to monitoring and recording energy consumption in commercial and industrial heating systems.

Bell Flow Systems can also provide heat metering kits for pipe sizes up to 4” (and larger on request). These heat metering kits combine a remote heat integrator, an inline ultrasonic flow sensor and a matched pair of PT500 temperature probes that meet MID Class 2.

If conducting energy audits in the field, the DXN portable ultrasonic flow meter from Dynasonics is an indispensable tool. Simple to install by clamping the non-invasive sensors onto the outside of the pipe and easy to use with the industryÂ’s only advanced touch-screen interface. With a long battery life, the datalogger can be left in-situ for a period of time and collected data can be viewed and interpreted with the free software provided.

With a wide variety of RHI approved heat meters at their disposal Bell Flow Systems can provide all the heat metering elements required to meet the stringent RHI standards.
