Tools & Machinery
A Toolroom lathe is a lathe optimised for toolroom work. It is essentially a top of the range centre lathe with all the most accurate and optional features that may not be incorporated in less expensive lathes. These optional toolroom essential features include such things as a full set of collets and collet attachment, taper attachment and even copying equipment. Basically every care is taken when building a toolroom lathe to ensure it is smooth running, accurate and versatile. The quality as in any branded item will vary greatly depending on the builder and price, but normally when an entry level machine is manufactured it is done so at a price to attract the market, while a toolroom lathe will be built to the highest spec as priority, the price being secondary. The quality of a good toolroom lathe can be measured by its ability to machine to fine tolerances and have good stability, giving low vibration for excellent surface finish.
