Titanium Nitride Coating Service
Titanium nitride sometimes known as TiN is an extremely hard ceramic material which is used as a coating on steel, titanium, aluminium and carbide. It is used to improve the components substrate surface properties, which hardens and protects the cutting edges and sliding surfaces of tools such as milling cutters and drill bits. It can also be used to increase the working life of sliding surfaces such as slideways and suspension forks. It is also non toxic which makes it suitable for use in medical implants as well as surgical cutting implements like scalpels and bone saw blades. In most applications of TiN coating two main methods are used. Firstly, they include physical vapour deposition, which is usually sputter deposition, cathodic arc deposition or electron beam splitting. The second method is chemical vapour deposition. In both cases pure titanium is sublimated and reacted with nitrogen in a high energy vacuum environment.
