Glass fibre moulding or mouldings are items or
objects which have been manufactured from the material known as fibreglass.
Glass fibre moulding is used in many different industries. Because glass fibre
mouldings are made by using moulds, a variety of object can be produced
quickly, efficiently and very economically, as the mould is used many times to
produce any number of items. Glass fibre moulding has many different
applications and uses, and is commonly used in the automotive industry i.e.; car
panels, bumpers etc. Other applications for glass fibre moulding can include,
fibreglass moulded ponds, fibreglass roofs, window canopies, door surrounds, and
various other architectural applications. Glass fibre mouldings are made using a
mould known as a buck or plug, which is a representation of the item to be made.
Layers of fibreglass are layed into the mould until the desired thickness is
attained. When these layers have set or cured, the moulding is separated from
the mould. The mould can then be used again for another glass fibre moulding,
and produce an identical item.
