Fire
barriers refers to any fireproof or fire resistant walls/partitions which are
constructed and put in place to contain and prevent the spread of fire. Fire
barriers when used within the confines of construction, can be classified as the
construction of firewalls or partitions. Fire barriers or fire walls are used to
subdivide a building into separate fire areas, and are located in accordance
with the locally applicable fire code. Fire walls are a part of buildings
passive fire protection systems. A fire barrier wall, also known as a fire
partition, is a fire rated wall assembly which is not a fire wall. Fire
barriers, are continuous from an exterior wall to an exterior wall, or from one
fire barrier to another fire barrier. Fire barriers are also found and aircraft
and specially prepared cars. Materials used for fire barriers can vary and the
use of mechanically bonded sheet metal, and concrete composite boards are widely
used.
