Calcium carbonate is a chemical compound found in rocks all over the world. It is also the main substance found in marine organisms, eggshell, seashells and in the everyday drinking water (hard water). Its applications are many being used in the pharmaceutical industry as a supplement for calcium or as an antacid. The main source of this substance is quarried and extracted from mines. The main source for the food industry is produced from marble; however the more common forms of calcium carbonate come from chalk, travertine and limestone. The construction industries are a large user, mainly for building material such as limestone aggregate and cement.
