VESTAS WIND SYSTEMS PUTS MGCPLUS TO THE TEST!

HBM United Kingdom Ltd News and PR from HBM United Kingdom Ltd - Published 12 December 2018 Vestas Wind Systems has been using MGCplus loggers from HBM – a market leader in the field of test and measurement – to successfully perform full blade tests for over a decade, so the recent CP52 upgrade to its MGCplus system was a welcomed asset.
Celebrating 25 years of being the number one data acquisition system, HBMÂ’s MGCplus now features a brand-new CP52 Communication Processor which replaces CP22 and CP42 and is backward compatible.

“The MGCplus system has offered continued reliability and has proved to be an asset to our testing facility. More recently, the latest CP52 upgrade, which features the ability to double the CAN HEAD channel count per chassis has been a welcomed addition.” explains Drake Marks, Lead Engineer at Vestas Wind Systems, on the decision to upgrade.

The MGCplus from HBM is a scalable and configurable data acquisition system for laboratory and test stand use. Particularly suitable for tests involving high channel numbers, the MGCplus can be used to acquire data on force, strain, displacement, torque, voltage, current, temperature and many other parameters.

More recently, due to market pressures of the wind industry, Vestas Wind Systems has now started to perform much of its validation work using sub structure test benches and component verification ahead of the full prototype turbines. To cope with this demand, the versatility of the QuantumX collection, combined with the ease of the Catman AP for these smaller channel count tests has proved itself to be a valuable resource by enabling Vestas to respond quickly to validation of the latest technologies, achieving the results at the right time for the business and helping the company to maintain its place as the leading player in the Wind Energy sector.
