Business Awards Turn High-Tech with Circuit Board Design

Special EFX is acclaimed for designing and manufacturing contemporary styled trophies, which inevitably turn heads and often are a talking point at an event or presentation ceremony. A recent commission for the Academy of Management (AOM) was purpose-designed to reinforce the theme of the event. The occasion was the AOMÂ’s first specialized conference hosted in April by the University of Surrey: Big Data and Managing in a Digital Economy and the awards each featured a correlating section of a circuit board.

The company, Special EFX is based in Warwickshire, near Stratford-upon-Avon, where it has its design studio and manufacturing works. The main challenge in production for the AOM trophies was to accurately cut the circuit boards to the required irregular octagon shape; these were then accented with a backdrop of green acrylic applied to the reverse. The face of the trophy is manufactured in polished nickel plated aluminium and is digitally printed and personalised. Each of the bespoke trophies feature a solid wood, black plinth, ensuring the trophies are both stable and free-standing.
