Karl Weston appointed as new Managing Director

metalweb Ltd News and PR from metalweb Ltd - Published 10 November 2016 metalweb, has appointed Karl Weston as managing director.
He succeeds outgoing MD, Bruce Maggs, who has held this position since 2012 and worked in the metals industry for the past four decades. Karl officially takes up his role in February when Bruce retires.

Prior to metalweb, Karl ran his own management consultancy business in the marine sector and worked extensively in the Middle East. This role followed 30 years experience in the metal distribution business. At metalweb, heÂ’ll be responsible for identifying profitable growth opportunities, growing the product range and breaking into new markets. Karl will report into US-based Bill Sales at metalwebÂ’s parent company, Reliance.

Speaking about his appointment, Karl said: “There’s no denying this will be a challenging role – 2015 was a tough year for metal distributors with significant falls in metal prices and major changes in the various product supply chain across the globe. However, metalweb has continued to enjoy growth during this time and has continued to launch new service initiatives.

“2015 saw metalweb process the highest ever number of tonnes, expand its capacities by record capital expenditure in new equipment and make significant improvements in working capital. I’m looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into the role to strengthen our already prominent position in the metals market.”

Bruce added: “Karl has considerable experience within the metal distribution business including previous managing director roles. I am confident he is the right person to bring further changes and progress within metalweb and I wish him every success in his new role.”
