Gas Spring Disposal

While ensuring the gas spring is held firmly use a 3mm drill bit to bore a hole around 15-
20mm from the end of the plug of the gas spring tube. It is advisable that safety
precautions are taken during this process, this includes wearing safety glasses, ear
plugs and protective clothing, this is due to the high pressure within the gas springs
releasing oil and metal fragments from the drilling process.

Once this hole has been drilled, use the piston road to cycle the depressurized gas
spring a few times with the hole over a container to capture any waste oil. This oil
should be disposed of responsibly and in accordance with any local regulations that are in place.

As a gas spring is mainly made of metal components this can be recycled and disposed of by any local authorities.

The gas used in the manufacture of Camloc gas springs is Nitrogen which is an inert
gas and is not toxic or explosive. However it does not sustain life and there may be
small oil particles suspended in the gas during the degassing process. It is therefore
recommended that the gas springs are degassed in a well-ventilated room.
