The Inaugural Manufacturing Forum, held at NylacastÂ’s Leicester site on the 15th of October 2014, was a fully booked event attended by a mix of delegates from the industry. The morning offered a chance for delegates to discuss current practices and business needs as well as how to drive future development of the engineering and manufacturing sector.
NylacastÂ’s Group HR & Training Manager Ian Mallabone delivered a company overview with a special focus on the engineering firmÂ’s new purpose-built Engineering Training Academy and how these facilities are taken advantage of in an effort to address the skills gap in the sector. Nylacast carry a strong focus on their people and polymers, clearly outlined by the training and support the worldwide firm provides for their current employees and aspiring apprentices.
The forum allowed company representatives to discuss and shape future forms and importantly provide the chamber with valuable information which will be influential on policy and representation. Followed by a site tour which offered an insight into the production and manufacturing facilities behind the global brand, the presentation was extremely well received.
Attending the forum was Chris Hobson, Head of Information and Representation, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce who commented, “We were delighted to be able to bring the Chamber's first manufacturing and engineering forum in Leicestershire to Nylacast. It was fascinating to see how the company has been proactively addressing potential skills gap in the sector through its academy and work with local schools. Manufacturing and engineering is incredibly important for the region and we'll be continuing our work with Nylacast and others in promoting the great work that's taking place and supporting these important growth industries”.
