Quickway Buildings Limited had supplied the Kent based merchants H.S.W. Timber with a total of 4 buildings to accommodate their office, workshop and storage requirements, and were called back in 2013 to evaluate the damage caused by a severe fire within a workshop building, which had also caused damage to an adjacent building .

The extreme heat had resulted in the partial destruction of the cladding of the workshop building, and major smoke damage affected both the internal surface of the building and the frame, as well as the machinery installed inside.

Although this damage looked serious, on closer inspection, the frame was not found to be affected, and with the exception of three sheeting rails, no members required replacement.

The building was subsequently attended by Quickway’s resident team of erectors, who stripped the frame which was then cleaned and repainted, and the building was then totally re clad with new plastisol coated steel sheeting and roof lights.

The fire highlighted the durability of the Quickway design, which exclusively uses a minimum of 5mm cold rolled steel and welded construction for the relocatable steel buildings in the range, and was pivotal in allowing the frame to withstand such intense heat without major damage.

This is testament to the quality and strength of the construction, which also enables multiple relocation of the buildings, without any major replacement of parts, or removal of cladding.
