Established in 1972 to service the local steel, chemical & mining industries we have grown and diversified into a high-quality precision machining facility and remain a family-owned business. Over recent years Dormor Machine & Engineering have invested significantly in our site with a doubling of our workshop area, and the introduction of many new machining centres including large lathes with driven tooling, a new vertical machining centre and twin a pallet machining centre to add to our existing broad capacity range. A further vertical machining centre is due to arrive very shortly. The current workforce is 36 employees consisting of our Managing Director Helen Cameron-Clarke, 6 members in our administration and sales support team along with 2 production managers, and 28 shop floor staff including skilled machinist running on day and night shifts, apprentices and trainee machinist, fitting and dressing and inspection staff. Machining Capacity Capabilities Turning. We operate a wide range of turning machines including modern CNC lathes with driven tooling capable of turning components up to 2,000 mm in length, ideal for high accuracy work, whether a one off or volume requirements. Vertical CNC Turning and Boring machines with the capability of turning up to 2,500 mm diameter components. Horizontal Machining Milling and Boring. With large capacity CNC & conventional horizontal boring machines we can undertake a broad range of machining challenges, whether it is a fabrication or pump casings for finish machining & line boring we have a broad portfolio of experience. For volume horizontal machining requirements, we have the ideal tool with our twin pallet horizontal machine. Milling. From our smaller milling and vertical machining centres to our largest machine which has a bed size of 4,000 mm x 2,200 mm we can accommodate most projects. Quality is always a focus at Dormor Machine & Engineering and to enhance this we have recently added a temperature-controlled inspection area to ensure we consistently supply the best possible product to our clients. Build and Assembly. Another of the services we offer includes assembly and build of components including expansion and shrink fitting of components one off or multiple components. Other capabilities. With recent research and development & investing in new tooling, we have ventured into producing high spec surface finish requirements as low as 0.1Ra. We comply to various quality standards as required such as EN 10204 Type 3.2 Certification and work with our clients and will tailor our methods to meet their specific requirements. Skilled workforce. We have highly skilled experienced operators some with over 30 years sector experience and operate an apprentice programme to ensure continuity of standards. With over 40 years' experience we are trusted supplier to many blue-chip clients across many market sectors.
