Saltwater
Chlorinators work by using a process that includes electrolysis. The
electrolysis breaks down the salt and the saltwater chlorinator then releases
chlorine into the water. This means that the water is not chlorine free because
it uses a chlorine generator in place of the direct addition of chlorine. To
chlorinate the water quickly the saltwater chlorinator and the pump should be
run for 24 hours. The chlorinator cell is made up of parallel plates with a
coating of titanium, ruthenium and iridium and requires regular maintenance and
cleaning as the build up of calcium can reduce the cells overall effectiveness.
