Lithium-ion polymer batteries, polymer lithium
ion, or more commonly lithium polymer batteries, are rechargeable batteries.
Lithium polymer batteries are rech
argeable
batteries which have technologically evolved from its earlier lithium-ion
predecessor. The lithium salt electrolyte is not held in an organic solvent as
in the lithium-ion battery, but in a solid polymer. The advantages of lithium
polymer batteries over the lithium-ion type include lower manufacturing cost and
more resistant to physical damage. Lithium polymer batteries have been used in
consumer products since about 1996. There are two commercialized technologies
and are both lithium-ion polymer cells, these are collectively referred to as
polymer electrolyte batteries. Uses for lithium polymer batteries can include
laptops computers, radio controlled cars, iPods, MP3 players and can also be
used for powering some mobile electric vehicles.
