Cherrypicker
A Cherry Picker also known as a boom lift or basket crane is a type of aerial work platform that consists of a bucket at the end of a hydraulic lifting system. It can often be seen mounted on the back of a large truck. It can also be mounted on the back of a large pick-up van and sometimes mounted on the back of a trailer or self moving platform. The bucket itself is designed for one person to stand in and carry out certain operations. Quite often there are two sets of controls, one for the person on the ground to operate and one for the person in the bucket so as to manipulate the position of the bucket to a finer degree. The lifting arms of these devices are capable of telescoping to adjust the reach, usually with automatic safety controls so as not to tip over with its own weight. When operating in narrow tight spaces it is sometimes an advantage to use an articulated boom because it is more capable in clearing nearby obstacles. Cherry pickers were originally designed for picking fruit in orchards, and today they are still very much in use in this sector.
