Litre Meter manufacture
and distribute flowmeters. Litre Meter manufacture the VFF range of
rotary piston positive displacement flow meters and the radial
Pelton Wheel turbine meter. Positive displacement flowmeters are
excellent for measuring higher viscosity liquids such as oils and
chemicals as well as low viscosity liquids like water and methanol.
The Pelton Wheel is ideally suited to low viscosity liquids up to
about 10 cSt depending on the viscosity and flow rate range
requirements. Litre Meter distribute a range of other technologies
in the UK to suit almost every other application. These technologies
are provided by a range of brands such as: Sierra Instruments,
Vögtlin, KEM, AW Lake, Tricor, Hoffer, Euromag, and Ritter.
Popular applications include: chemical injection, water measurement
and mass flow measurement. Popular techniques include thermal mass,
Coriolis mass, electromagnetic, turbine, wet-drum, capillary
thermal, oval gear, spur gear, helical screw, primary standard,
inferential, ultrasonic, non-inferential and pelton wheel turbine.
The selection of the best flowmeter for your application can
sometimes be simple but in many cases our application engineers can
use their wide knowledge and the Litre Meter database to narrow down
the options and provide an optimal flow measurement solution.

In
addition to manufacturing in the UK, Litre Meter can provide a range
of flowmeters from all over the world including: USA, Europe,
Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy and Switzerland. From the
Americas is the Sierra Instruments range. Originally based around
thermal measurement techniques other principles have been added
including Vortex, Ultrasonic, Primary Gas Calibration and flow
switch technology. Also from the Americas Hoffer have an enviable
reputation for cryogenic flow metering with the ability to measure
down to -197°C. Now this application forms just part of a wide range
of application engineered turbines, ultrasonic and electromagnetic
variants.
Germany provides sources of turbine, thermal, Coriolis, volume gas
meter, spur gear positive displacement and helical screw positive
displacement technologies. KEM Küppers have been manufacturing gear
positive displacement meters (ZHM) for over 40 years. These are used
for all paints, paint dispense control devices, fuel consumption
control devices, polyols and isocyanates, coating and cavity wax,
glue, PVC, filled and abrasive fluids and for hydraulic oils.
Measuring ranges from 0.005 up to 1,000 l/min. Typical viscosity
ranges are from 0.5 to 25,000 mm²/s (cSt/cP). They have added
helical screw positive displacement (SRZ), axial turbine flowmeter
(HM), the LFM pendulum based PD meter and Coriolis mass flow
metering (KCM/TCM). They have been manufacturing Coriolis for the
past 10 years and have recently introduced the revolutionary Tricor
system offering a unique balance of accuracy and cost base.
Measuring ranges from 4.5 kg/h up to 60,000 kg/h and pressures up to
350 bar.
Vögtlin is based in Switzerland and produces thermal mass gas
flowmeters and mass flow controllers. The battery powered Compact
versions are very popular in laboratories and universities for their
ease-of-use and wide flow range capability.
Italy is arguably the worldwide centre for electromagnetic meter
manufacturers. Euromag is one of the leaders with a very wide range
of electromagnetic products from 3mm in line up to 10m insertion
variants. Added to this is a spec equalling ultrasonic flowmeter –
the Eurosonic.
The United Kingdom is the base for Litre Meter where we produce two
different types of device. The more traditional Pelton Wheel Turbine
has some unique properties including large turndown, exceptional
material specification enabling a wide range of applications to be
met. Intrinsically Safe versions can be made for fluids that cannot
be in contact with metals such as for High Purity applications or
for aggressive chemicals. The VFF rotary piston meter is extensively
used in oil & gas applications because of its strength, flow range
and ability to measure at the highest of pressures. The unique
design enables pressure independent measurement from 0 to 4000 bar.
The specially developed coating enhances the low flow ability and
high flow ability, reduces shock issues and enhances longevity.
Specified by subsea operators as the ultimate flow measurement
chemical injection device and used onshore, topsides, subsea in all
regions of the earth. Most popular in the Gulf of Mexico where it
has been specified by a Chevron for use in controlling oilfield
chemicals at pressures over 1000 bar (14,500) psi in exotic
materials, with American approved Exd instrumentation (rather than
ATEX Exd/EExd), HART protocol and 316 stainless steel enclosures.
Fluids measured include scale inhibitor, corrosion inhibitor,
demulsifier, biocide, pour point depressant, drag reducing agent (DRA),
methanol, Low Dosage Hydrate inhibitor (LDHI), wax inhibitor, other
chemical injection fluids.
Calibration is a flow service offered by Litre Meter for gases and
liquids. In-house in the UK we have 6 calibration rigs all for
liquid from a few millilitres per hour up to 1000 litres/minute in
water and a variety of viscosity oils. Oils can be mixed to order to
provide a close viscosity match. Principles are either gravimetric
flying start/stop or master meter comparison. With our partners
around the world we can calibrate almost any gas or liquid. On the
gas calibrators we offer calibration on air, oxygen, hydrogen,
argon, carbon dioxide, digester gas, methane, nitrogen, propane and
correlation calibration on oxygen. Sierra offer a system of gas
calibrators – Cal-Trak – with ranges from 5 to 500 sccm, 50 sccm to
5 slpm, 500 sccm to 50 slpm and 5 to 500 slpm. Ritter’s TG series of
drum type volumetric meters run from 1 to 60 litres per hour up to
100 to 18,000 litres per hour and are based on first principles
providing Primary Calibration.
