I want a new fire escape - what do I do?
The first point of call is always to speak to
your local authority. They will be able to tell you what you can construct at
your property and what you can achieve under the provision of the building
regulations. These cover fire safety in new and altered buildings.
Local authorities will also advise you if there is any planning permission
issues you should be aware of.
Hiring an architect or a structural engineer is normally the next step. An
architects will commission a structural engineer on your behalf who will oversee
all aspects of construction, design and will provide you with general
arrangement drawings. This is a definitive drawing of the space the fire escape
