Drain & Able CCTV Surveys Reading, Drain & Able CCTV Surveys
Berkshire, Drain & Able CCTV Surveys Newbury.
A CCTV survey is a process in which a miniature TV camera is pushed
through the drains to provide us with an internal view of any
problem areas the drains might have. CCTV surveying allows us to
precisely locate the area of pipe in which the defect lies. It may
also be of benefit in maintaining your drainage system, checking
that everything is in good working order. By using the CCTV surveys
we gain a far fuller picture of what the internal problems with your
drains are and this is a far superior and reliable method of
analysing your problem and therefore enables us to better resolve
the problem. In fact CCTV surveying allows us to precisely locate
the area of pipe in which the defect lies. It may also be of benefit
in maintaining your private drainage system, checking that
everything is in good working order. Please see our website for

damage and fractures and breakages may lead to the escape of water
in the surrounding ground area leading to further problems and may
even cause the drain to collapse and cause subsidence. Many of the
drains in the UK are constructed from a material called pitch fibre
which has been found to be inherently defective and over time will
deteriorate. The roots of trees can also penetrate small cracks in
drains and make them larger. This causes the water to leak out and
encourages more root growth which means that the damage can get
progressively worse unless the roots are removed.
We provide specialist drain repair services to the domestic and
commercial sectors including patch repairs, full drain relining and
lateral cutting services. Please see our website for further details

Transfer of Private Sewers & Lateral Drains to Public Ownership :
Guidance on the new legislation for sewers, drains and lateral
drains
The Government has announced that the responsibility for many
private sewers and lateral drains which drain to a public sewer and
extend beyond your property boundary will transfer to water and
sewerage companies on 1st October 2011. At the moment, private
sewers are the responsibility of their owners, generally the owners
and occupiers of the properties they serve. After 1st October 2011
you will still be responsible for the sections of pipe between your
property/building and the transferred private sewer or lateral
drain. Please see our website for some useful diagrams which show
the changes (www.drainandable.co.uk).
What Are Sewers, Drains & Lateral Drains
Sewers are pipes which carry waste from more than one property.
Drains are pipes which carry waste from a single property to the
sewer. These become lateral drains when they extend beyond the
boundary of the property.
How Will The Transfer Affect Me?
At the moment, many properties own sewers and lateral drains that
run beyond the boundary of their property. They are responsible for
the maintenance and repair of these pipes but are often unaware of
this until a problem arises.
From 1 October 2011, Water and Sewerage Companies will take over
ownership of private sewers and lateral drains that extend beyond
individual property boundaries within its area. Once sewers become
the responsibility of the Water and Sewerage Companies, the cost of
repairing and maintaining these public sewers will be covered by the
sewerage charges customers pay in the future. After the transfer you
will still be responsible for drains on your land.
Currently property owners are responsible for private sewers and
lateral drains, which are the sections of sewer pipe or drain which
are shared with another person’s property, or run through another
person’s land. After the private sewer transfer there will only be
public sewers (owned and maintained by the water & sewerage
companies) and private drains (the responsibility of property
owners).
Before October 2011
-
You, the homeowner, have
responsibility for the private drain within your property
boundary/boundaries right up to the public sewer and beyond your
properties boundary.
-
You, the homeowner, have
responsibility for the private drain within your property
boundary and right up to where it joins your next door
neighbours drain. Then you have shared responsibility for the
private sewer right up to the public sewer.
-
You, the homeowner, have
responsibility for the private drain from your house to where it
joins a shared private sewer. Then you have shared
responsibility for the private sewer right up to the public
sewer.
-
You, the homeowner, have
responsibility for the private drain from your house to where it
joins a shared private sewer. Then you have shared

After October 2011
-
You, the homeowner, have
responsibility for the private drains within your property
boundary/boundaries. The Water & Sewerage Company has
responsibility beyond your property and its boundary.
