Following the collapse of a lath and plaster ceiling at a school in Norfolk, many commercial and educational property owners have commissioned condition inspections so that they can understand the extent of lath and plaster in their properties, its condition, and whether remedial works are required.

Lath and plaster is a traditional material, used up until the middle of the last century. It is made up of wooden strips nailed to a surface, and covered in layers of plaster.

There is no inherent danger in a lath and plaster ceiling if it is in good condition; however, when it starts to deteriorate then risk of collapse starts to develop. A condition survey will identify any areas of concern and allows building owners and managers to plan and budget for essential repairs.
