Graeme Miles (Service Director) Cognito Ltd Preston Business Development Limited was originally selected to implement our ISO9001 Quality Management System on the basis of some consultancy work carried out previously to create a Value Added Reseller management system. This earlier activity was outsourced because we did not have the internal resource or the capability available at the time to deliver. It was always our intention to use the VAR management system as the basis of our quality management system and PBD Ltd was selected because of its relevant experience, track record with other clients and locality to our business. The original VAR process involved collating requirements from a number of sources across the business and Richard, their consultant demonstrated leadership and ownership which provided us with clear direction in order to produce a framework for use with our international VAR partners. We have found Richard to be very knowledgeable with both the standards and the requirements of the accreditation bodies who we need to work closely with in order to achieve and maintain accreditation. Richard initially delivered a presentation for our senior management team to implement ISO9001 along with objectives and most importantly practical timescales. The relationship with Richard is very collaborative and whilst Richard is proactive in making constructive suggestions for improvements we have always been able to challenge and achieve satisfactory outcomes which have resulted in our management systems being developed totally in line with the needs and structure of our organisation. The ISO9001 system took approximately twelve months to establish and a further twelve months to fully bed down. As part of the implementation Richard was also used to deliver initial awareness staff training across the company to ensure that we had full engagement and cooperation. Once ISO9001 had been established we decided to proceed with the implementation of the Information Security Management System standard ISO27001 as this was considered beneficial in terms of our internal requirements as well as differentiating us from our competitors. The pre-requisite for ISO27001 being the accreditation to ISO9001 and this enabled accreditation to ISO27001 much quicker than the implementation of ISO9001. Richard initially performed a companywide risk assessment and an implementation plan. ISO27001 accreditation was achieved within nine months of commencement and a further nine months to mature. We also use Richards’s services for our internal auditing and reporting activities as part of the on-going control of our management systems and I unreservedly recommend him to organisations seeking to implement and maintain these standards
