We are low volume precision engineers specialising in Wire Erosion, Hard Metal Machining, High Precision Machining, Conventional Machining, Gear Cutting, Grinding and CNC Machining. Our wide range of capabilities allow us to produce the highest quality, intricate parts covering a wide range of industries like Pharmaceutical, Motorsport, Mining, Oil and Gas.

Our workforce is highly skilled and ranges from CAD designers to experienced toolmakers. They can easily adapt to your needs, from production-scale orders to reverse-engineered one-offs.

Wire Erosion

When working with hard metals and small workpieces, we use Wire Erosion to achieve exceptional surface finishes and manufacture complex shapes. Our state-of-the-art machinery produces highly precise components that would be difficult or impossible to manufacture using conventional methods.

Our wire erosion machines include the Charmilles Robofil 4030 SI Wire Eroder, and the 2020 SI Wire Eroder.

Wire erosion is just one of the many machining techniques utilised by Glebe Engineering, this technique complements our vast array of services, allowing components to be manufactured and assembled in-house.

High Precision Machining

Utilising the latest techniques and CNC machining equipment, Glebe Engineering specialise in the manufacture of low volume, high precision components for a wide range of industries. Our CNC milling and turning machines have up to 5 axis machining capabilities to produce custom parts in various materials, including stainless steel, aluminium, alloy steels, Inconel and titanium.

We often produce high-precision parts for customers in the motorsport industry, from motorcycle and vintage car restoration projects to precision Formula One components, as well as components manufactured to high tolerances for the oil and gas and pharmaceutical industries.

5 Axis Machining
5-axis machining is a highly advanced machining process where the cutting tool moves simultaneously along 5 different axis. 2 rotational axis are added to the standard 3 linear axis, this allows the machinery to approach parts from almost any angle. With 5 axis machining Glebe Engineering are able to produce highly complex geometries to your unique requirements.

Hard Metal Machining

Hard metal machining is a complex task, in order to achieve extreme tolerances in hard metals we use wire erosion. Glebe Engineering use Hard Turning and Hard Milling to reshape and cut pre-hardened steels, titanium, and superalloys (45 to 70 HRC).

Speed and Optimised Feed
In order to prevent extreme localised stress on the cutting edge, lower feed rates and high cutting speeds are required.

Specialised Tooling
For hard metal machining we utilise carbide turning inserts, ceramic tools and CBN, which possess high abrasion and heat resistance. Standard HSS would instantly fail.

Rigidity
The main enemy of hard metal machining is deflection. To ensure stability we ensure tool overhang is kept to an absolute minimum and workpieces are securely clamped.

Conventional Machining

For preliminary work, small batch work, rough machining and fixture making we use conventional machining methods. These methods are perfect for the subtractive manufacturing of metals that are not particularly brittle or hard, such as stainless steel or aluminium.

From the very beginning conventional machining has been part of our production range, we operate various manual turning machines, from a Lacfer CRI lathe to Harrison 400 and 500 centre lathes, all of which incorporate digital read-outs.

Our conventional machining capabilities allow us to work with tolerances down to 0.05mm and turn pieces up to 200mm deep and 720mm in diameter.

Gear Cutting

We offer a wide range of gear cutting, rack cutting, broaching, splining, hobbing and shaping services thanks to our extensive range of CNC machinery. Our state-of-the-art machinery enables us to produce helical gears, straight spur gears, internal broaching, and internal/external splining work.

Our high precision gear cutting service doesn't just rely on our machinery, it also relies on our team of enthusiastic and experienced machinists that boast over 80 years of experience in transmission machining.

Using high precision CMM we are also able to re-engineer gears and related components.

Grinding

Our up-to-date machinery allows us to offer cylindrical, surface, internal and rotary grinding. Grinding is often the final machining stage before component inspection.

Surface Grinding
Up to 500mm x 200mm x 150 mm thick.

Bore Grinding
up to 100mm long and 150mm in diameter.

Cylindrical Grinding
Up to 300mm long and 150mm in diameter.
