As pioneers of
through coating measurement using the Multiple-Echo technique, Cygnus
Instruments has now successfully developed a range of Multiple-Echo digital
thickness gauges to measure metal thicknesses through protective coatings.
This new technology was largely driven by the need for hand held devices now required for a wide range of industrial applications.
Cygnus has now entered a new phase of innovation and developed a new range of hand held products for use predominantly in the marine inspection sector.
Ship Hull Surveys
Oil and Gas Platform Checks
Rope Access Surveys
Cygnus gauges are manufactured to the highest standards and engineered to withstand the harshest environments. They are extremely robust and easy to use. They are also accurate, reliable and repeatable which is reflected in our 3 year warranty promise.
Cygnus 1 Intrinsically Safe
The Cygnus 1 Intrinsically Safe is not only rugged and shock proof it uses multiple-echo ultrasonic technology to accurately measure metal thickness in order to determine wastage or corrosion in potentially hazardous surface areas.
Cygnus 2 Hands Free
Setting new standards the Cygnus Hands Free surface thickness gauge has been specifically created for rope climbing inspection applications. With its end mounted rotatable LCD and twin shot injection moulded enclosure this device has a soft but durable TPE outer skin which is not only comfortable but will protect against those bumps and knocks.
Cygnus 4 General Purpose
This ultrasonic gauge thickness tester from Cygnus is a general purpose instrument perfect even in the harshest environments. The Cygnus 4 is simple and easy to use and uses a keypad and intuitive menus and a colour LCD display.
The line-up of high quality instrumentation from Cygnus continues:
Cygnus 2+ Hands Free
Cygnus 4+ General Purpose
Cygnus 6+ Pro
Cygnus Dive Underwater Gauge
Cygnus ROV Mountable
Cygnus Mini ROV Mountable
Cygnus Hatch Sure
Cygnus Heavy Duty
To further enhance the Cygnus range of surface thickness instrumentation Cygnus offers a wide range of products to cover all eventualities and various other applications. These include Probe Handlers, Telescopic Extensions, Test Blocks for calibration, Tripods, Switch Assemblies, Battery Chargers, Batteries, Adaptors and more.

We used the 5MHz dual crystal as it gave the best results on the pitted steel we found on the many corroded ships hulls where we tried the UT gauge. The DIVE was reliable, very easy to use, has simple menu system and displays. The logging function was essential as we only had 13 minutes on the wreck each day; I could make lots of measurements and figure out the answer back home in post processing, we also didn't have to write anything down or think too much as thinking isn't so easy in 40m water with the effects of narcosis!
Cygnus Instruments Limited uses ultrasonic technology to great effect, and now exports about 70% of what it manufactures in Dorchester through a global network of distributors and resellers. The ultrasonic gauges enable metal thickness to be measured without disturbing whatever surrounds the metal, and hence enables the condition of the metal to be assessed.
