National Grid

In Great Britain there is an electric power transmission network which connects substations and power stations to ensure that electricity that is generated anywhere in Great Britain, can meet demands elsewhere. This is commonly known as the National Grid. This also includes interconnections that run under the sea to Northern Ireland HVDC Moyle.. Northern France HVDC Cross-Channel and the Isle of man. The Central Electricity Generating Board broke up in 1990 and the operation and ownership of the National Grid passed on to the National Grid Company plc which later became known as National Transco and now National Grid plc: The Scottish Power and Scottish and Southern Energy Group own the grid in Scotland . Today the National Grid control these Scottish groups but the network is owned by Scottish companies.
