A
lightening rod or lightening conductors usually consists of a single rod in a
lightening protection system. The rooftop lightening rod in a lightening
protection system is a metal strip usually made from aluminium or copper. As
well as the rod a lightening protection system can also include, a rooftop
network of conductors, which provide multiple paths from the roof to the ground.
Lightening protection systems can be installed on bridges, monuments, trees, and
even on water vessels for protection against lightening. Lightening protection
rods are also known as, air terminals, finials or strike termination devices. A
lightening protection device, works by conducting the lightening away from the
structure via the rod, and sending it down harmlessly into the ground.
