A Smartphone is a mobile phone that offers more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a normal mobile phone. Smartphones and feature phones may be thought of as handheld computers with mobile technology incorporated within them. However as most of these feature phones are capable of running applications based on platforms such as Java ME, a smartphone allows the user to run and multitask applications that are native to the underlying hardware. Smartphones run complete operating system software giving a platform for application developers. And so they combine the functions of a camera phone and a personal digital assistant. The use of these smartphones is increasing in the UK, it is estimated that 22% of consumers already own a smartphone. According to a recent study over 45.5 million people in the United States owned smartphones in the year 2010. Despite this fact it is estimated that this number only makes up 20% of total sales.
