Plastic Moulding
Plastic moulding is a manufacturing process, for
making parts from thermosetting plastic and thermoplastic materials. In the
plastic moulding process, material i s
fed into a heated barrel, it is then mixed and forced into a mould cavity, where
it will harden, and cool to the shape of the mould cavity. After a product has
been designed, the plastic injection moulds are made by a mould maker or
toolmaker. The plastic injection moulding is made from metal, either aluminium
or steel and machined to form the features of the required part. Plastic
moulding is used to manufacture many different things, such as bottle caps, milk
cartons, children’s toys, dashboards and most other plastic products available
today. Some advantages of plastic mouldings are high tolerances. High production
rates, low labour costs and minimal scrap losses. Plastic moulding is used
widely for manufacturing a variety of parts, from the smallest component, to
large body panels of cars.
