Partitions and room dividers are used by interior designers as a means to divide and separate different areas. There are many different types and designs of room dividers such as cubicle partitions, pipe and drape screens, shoji screens and walls. Houses and other residences use room dividers to divide the space more effectively or just as a focus point. The most common form of partitioning is probably a shoji screen. Shoji screens are usually in three sections which pull out to create a longer wall or divider. They can be used to section off part of a room or office which does not have to be necessarily seen by the public or visitors. In schools and other official building environments, partitions can be used to create temporary classrooms or offices in otherwise large open rooms or halls. Hotels and restaurants also use partitioning; these can vary between two main types. Commonly you will see floor to ceiling room dividers in banquet halls and meeting places, but in other situations, portable partitions may be a better option.
