Ni-Cad
or nickel cadmium batteries are more commonly called the Ni-Cad battery. It is a
type of rechargeable battery and uses metallic cadmium and nickel oxide
hydroxide as electrodes. The abbreviation NiCad is a registered trademark and
should not be used to refer to just any nickel cadmium battery, however this
brand name is quite often used when reference is made to all nickel cadmium
batteries. The abbreviation NiCd is taken from the chemical symbols nickel Ni
and cadmium Cd and should not be confused with a chemical formula. Ni-Cad or
Nicad cells have a potential of 1.2V. Many popular other cells are 1.5V and as
such this Ni-Cad or NiCad cells may not prove to be an appropriate replacement.
Small Ni-Cad or NiCad batteries are used in portable devices like toys, power
tools and wireless telephones, to name just some of their many uses.
