Forklift Training
Forklift training is absolutely essential for employees in the workplace where these trucks are used. In the UK the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) states that operators must be adequately trained in their operation, however the nature of this training is not laid down. Some organisations have developed de-facto best practice standards for forklift training; this is now commonly known as the forklift truck licence. This training is not a legal requirement as is believed, but helps to demonstrate that as an employer they have taken action to ensure it has taken steps to demonstrate its duty of care in the event of an accident. In the UK, forklift truck training is carried out by a number of organisations and all forklift instructors must be registered with at least one. These operators are registered on a database which has to be renewed on a three year basis, but the time between these refresher courses is subject to the Health and Safety Executive, company policies, and insurance companies.
