A decal or transfer is a cloth paper, plastic or
ceramic substrate which has a pattern printed on it that can be transferred to
another surface upon contact. To aid in the process of the decal to the other
surface heat or water is usually employed. The word decal is short for
decalcomania, which is derived from the French word decalquer. There are
different types of decal and these include, vinyl decals which are a peel and
stick decals, and are petroleum based transfers which on contact with the other
surface will peel off from the decals base. Static cling decals are used on
windows and are easily removable. Decals have a wide range of uses of which
vehicle identification is just one. Other types of decals include, glow in the
dark decals, reflective decals, double sided decals, and removable decals to
mention just some.
