Basket Trolley

A basket trolley is basically a basket on wheels, a trolley which can be used to transport the customers shopping to the checkout and then on to their own transport. When first developed they were equipped with four standard wheels but as was soon to be discovered became hard to manoeuvre. They are now fitted with swivel type wheels so as they can be moved in any direction. The main body or carrier is normally constructed from a thick wire forming a basket like carrier, but there are now other designs made from plastic which are lighter and safer. Some trolleys contain a coin operated device so as to encourage customers to return them to the right location after use. There are now trolleys which can carry children, in some cases even two, there are even electrically operated trolleys for the disabled, these are basically a mobility scooter with a supermarket trolley attached to the front.
