Risk Assessments
Under The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person
must carry out a fire safety risk assessment and implement and maintain a fire
management plan. The Fire Safety Order applies to all non-domestic premises in
England and Wales, including the common parts of blocks of flats and houses in
multiple occupancies.
Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguisher maintenance and care in accordance with the Code of Practice
stipulated in British Standard 5306 part 3 should be integrated into your
premises Fire Risk Assessment and is, in effect, a legal requirement of the
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Annual checks must be taken place by
a company such as our selves on all fire extinguishers to comply with the fire
safety order 2005 and insurance company requirements.

Fire Extinguisher Servicing
Fire extinguisher servicing must be carried out in accordance with
British Standard 5306 part 3 (or more recent for high risk
locations). Our specialist knowledge in all aspects of fire safety
including fire extinguisher servicing enables us to provide
businesses nationwide with a high quality service carried out by our
fully trained fire engineers. On completion of the fire extinguisher
service a certificate is issued for fire inspection and insurance
purposes.
Safety Signs
Employers are required to provide specific safety signs whenever there is a risk
that has not been avoided or controlled by other means, e.g. by engineering
controls and safe systems of work. An example of other types of safety signs
which should be implemented are fire exit signs, hazardous substances signs and
fire action signs. Where a safety sign would not help to reduce that risk, or
where the risk is not significant, there is no need to provide a sign.

Fire Training
It is the responsibility of employers to ensure that their staff are adequately
trained on what to do in the event of fire. Training should be given upon
induction and preferably a second time within the first month of employment.
Refresher training should be given at least once a year. Training should be
undertaken by a competent person or company and a record kept in some form of
log book.
Fire Alarms
The fire alarm inspection and servicing should be undertaken by organisations
with the appropriate competence based upon the risk assessment but the maximum
period between visits should not exceed six months. Between these service visits
it is vital for a regular test to be undertaken to ensure that there has not
been a major failure of the entire fire detection and fire alarm system that may
otherwise go unnoticed. This can be done by carrying out Logged weekly tests by
a competent person on a different manual call point each time during working
hours to cheek that the control panel and alarm sounders operate satisfactorily.
