Choosing your casters

Wheel Diameter:
The larger the diameter of the wheel the easier it will handle bumps and
roll. If the equipment you are attaching your castors to requires moving
regularly we advise the use of 150mm diameter or bigger. It is possible to use
castors with a smaller diameter, providing they have the correct load rating on
for equipment that is only needed for occasional movement.
Tread / Tyre Materials:

Polyurethane tyred wheels - are not effected by mineral oils and grease,
they carry loads approaching that of cast iron with a lower tractive resistance
than rubber. Polyurethane is best for manual handling of very heavy loads.
Rubber tyred wheels - are available in a large range if colours, sizes
and load capacities with a choice of plastic, pressed metal, nylon and cast iron
centre. They are suitable for use on almost every floor type.
Solid Nylon Wheels - tend to be the most popular choice of material as
they do not damage solid compacted floors like tile or cement etc and have a
fairly good carrying capacity. Main use for solid nylon wheels are food
processing areas.
Cast Iron Wheels - can be noisy and cause floor wear but can withstand
extreme temperatures. They combine shock resistance and strength with economy
and long life. |
