Laser Welding Systems |
|
Laser
welding systems are capable of spot or seam welding of stainless steels and tool
steels, titanium, aluminium, platinum, gold, silver and copper as well as a wide
range of alloys. From compact and economical manual welding systems like the
Desktop and Performance, through the Select, Integral and
Open laser systems for mould tool repair, to fully automated systems
featuring our high power pulsed and CW solid state lasers, Rofin can offer the
right commercial and technical solution to meet the needs of industrial
customers.
The Performance laser welding system allows manual welding of metallic
components with precise positioning of the weld location carried out under a
microscope. Typical applications are the manufacture and repair of platinum
jewellery, spectacle frames and dental implants.
In R&D, prototyping and batch manufacturing the Performance is used to
weld medical devices, tools, sensors, thermocouples and fine mechanical or
electronic assemblies with all the advantages of low heat input and
repeatability that laser welding can offer. For more consistent welding of
batches, systems with XYZ and rotary axes are available which can be controlled
via CNC. |

Laser Marking / Laser Engraving |
|
New advances in laser technology have enabled Rofin to offer a range of low cost
and low maintenance laser systems for laser marking and engraving of virtually
any material. The EasyMark system is totally water-free offering an
efficient laser marking solution which can fit on a bench top and run from a
standard single phase socket. Marking of plastics and metals is made simple with
a LaserCAD front end software and support for easy set-up of logos, barcodes and
2D matrix arrays. Programming the EasyMark is carried out using a laptop
which is connected via Ethernet port to the marking system. Laser marking is
fast, clean and permanent offering excellent repeatability and consistent
quality.
As well as complete marking systems, Rofin offers laser marking systems
for integration into high speed fully automated production cells. Using the
latest fibre lasers and end pumped Vanadate systems it is possible to achieve
high quality marking at high speed with minimum footprint and maximum
reliability and efficiency. The Powerline series of solid state lasers
are used in the marking of plastics, metals and ceramics in industries as varied
as Agriculture, Automotive and Aerospace. In medical device manufacturing the
fine nature of the Powerline laser beam allows very precise marking of barcodes
and 2D matrix arrays which are capable of withstanding a high number of
autoclaving operations without any loss of readability. Our CO2 laser marking
systems are ideal for fast moving food & drink or pharmaceutical packages which
need to be date coded or batch numbered for traceability. This technology is
also most appropriate where non-metals like, paper, wood, glass, leather and
materials are to be marked.

Laser Cutting |
|
Laser fine cutting of small tubes for medical device applications is an area
where Rofin have gained significant experience since 1998. The StarCut Tube
is a turnkey fine tube cutting system capable of cutting tubes as small as 0.2
mm OD without any backwall damage. For the cutting of cardiac stents, the
StarCut Tube is capable of running with minimal operator intervention and
achieves cutting kerf widths finer than 20 microns. Contour following accuracy
is better than 5 microns and heat affected zone is typically 2 microns in
stainless steel. The system can also be used to cut cobalt chromium and Nitinol
tubes, materials commonly used in medical device and surgical implant
applications.
The
best-selling DC range of Slab CO2 lasers from Rofin is a revolutionary
and patented design offering a combination of high beam quality and low running
costs which make it the laser of choice for high power laser welding and laser
cutting systems. The built-in premix gas bottle will allow the laser to run for
15 months without changing the gas bottle, thereby keeping the maintenance of
the system to a minimum and reducing the gas element of the running costs. The
Slab technology was first introduced in 1995 and over the years the power level
has increased as the technology has been optimized. Currently, the laser power
ranges from 100W to 600W in a sealed-off tube design, the SC systems (no
gas cylinder required) and from 1,000W to 8,000W, the DC systems. The
high powered systems can also be used for hardening and cladding of steels. |
