Sound Dead Steel was presented with the John Connel technology award 2005 by the NOISE ABATEMENT SOCIETY and D.E.F.R.A. for the contribution there material and Acoustic Enclosures make to Industrial Noise Control. Sound Dead Steel manufacture acoustically dead steel and aluminium as either fully laminated sound deadened steel or self adhesive single layer add on acoustic dampers for Noise Control Solutions which can be retro-fitted to existing fabrications.

SDS materials are based on a sandwich construction consisting of two metal skins constraining a very thin (80 microns) visco elastic polymer. When compared to ordinary steel and aluminium the audible characteristics totally change, reductions can be up to 30dB.

SDS offer Noise Control Solutions to control vibration, impact and radiated noise, we also supply a range of Acoustic Foams to control airborne noise. When these foams are incorporated into an Acoustic Enclosure made with Sound Dead Steel the results are fantastic. The steel prevents noise radiating from the skin of the enclosure, while the acoustic foam absorbs the airborne noise which would normally reverberate inside the Acoustic Enclosure. This system is so efficient that often simple louvers are sufficient for air supply & cooling without the need for expensive attenuation.

Sound Dead Steel have branded there material SONPHONON. This name comes from the words Sonic (relating to, using, or producing sound or sound waves, able to be heard by the human ear) & PHONON (a quantum of vibrational or acoustic energy). SDS controls sound & vibration so the name is perfect.
